Helpful tools for better Email Inbox Delivery

Please note these are only suggestions and will not guarantee delivery into the inbox.  The ISP has the final say on whether or not they accept your emails and also which folder they are likely to place your message i.e. the inbox or the spam/junk folder.

1.)    Send only to those subscribers who have requested to receive your emails.  This is our policy so if you are not doing this you are in violations of the terms you agreed to.  Also you only hurt yourself here.  Sending to a subscriber who did not request the email is considered Spam and if they complain it gives you a negative mark with the ISP.  Also clean up your lists.  Make sure you are not sending to inactive or non-existent email addresses as this is also a negative mark for you with the ISP.

2.)    Set up SPF records.  This can only be done if you are using a from email address for a private Domain.  If you are sending using a from email address with hotmail/msn, yahoo, aol, etc then you would be unable to set up SPF records

3.)    Set up Sender ID (specifically with delivery help to hotmail/msn)  The directions for setting up Sender ID records is at the bottom of the article for the link below.

4.)    White list your sending with the ISPs

5.)    Content and Subject line.  Make sure first of all that your Subject heading is clear.  If by the subject heading and the from email address the subscriber cannot tell who is sending the message there are more likely to mark it as spam and not even open the message.  Second make sure your content is clear.  There are several words and symbols that may get flagged such as $$$, free, cash, etc.  This is a very small percentage.  As far as content is concerned you will really need to use your best judgment.  If you think some people may consider your message as spam like then changes are so will the ISP.

            a.    Be careful when sending images.  Some ISPs will filter a message if it is one large image.  It is difficult for their servers to handle and some subscribers have slow internet connections and they may not even be able to see the image.  We recommend creating your message with several smaller images.
